5.1 Dolby Digital / MASTERING BY SEPARATION (PCM)
Mastering by separation will prevent distortion and hiss. There' no need for me to suppress. because I am in short using 2 ends ,my mixing and mastering gear to control the middle, which is the outcome. With the mastering by separation you will receive all songs done in 5.1 Dolby Digital ,mono and stereo tracks. The end product will be DVD because I do PCM's not downmixes plus the bit rate will be 24 bit. It will play stereo,mono and 5.1 Dolby Digital. CD's do have that much space to do 5.1 and PCM, which is stereo tracks mastered by separation, It' the PCM that is going to sound like the stereo track you upload to me; the 5.1 is a entirely different sound. They are not the same. They do not sound the same.
How long does it takes depends on the the bells and whistles you have? It could take a month,easy! If you have a stereo mix of a particular or songs and you want the stereo tracks to sound the same send it; otherwise I will mix it down to a stereo mix my way. There' no one way to mix as you may know. Give a thousand engineers your multi-track and it will be done a thousands different ways and all will done right. Therefore if you have a particular way you want the stereo track to sound, it' welcomed;otherwise I will do it my way. The Dolby Digital will sound completely different. no bass will be heard from your monitors or loud speakers if it is a home entertainment receiver or car. The reason why is that all the bass will be transfered to the sub. Lead voice will come out the center or the left ,center and right. A lot has to do with how the lead voice interacts with the background voices. Rap , pop, jazz,country and ballads sounds the best. Some rock it the backbeat, like snares and the power guitar is not needed to be loud to match the voice. I do not recomend certain kinds of rock.
WHY NOT DTS
DTS sounds better because more information is let in. The threshold and ratio are set higher than Dolby Digital. However, it does not have the versatilities that Dolby Digital have. With Dolby Digital you can play stereo,mono or 5.1. DTS can not do that,only 5.1. If you just want 5.1 DTS is the way to go. My price is the same for DTS.
WHY DOLBY DIGAL/ Mastering by Separation, PCM
Most stereo tracks I get is over processed at least one of the tracks; mostly voice. Or, the percusion instruments are coliding with voice causing the distortion. Most do not know how to prevent that from occurring. Or maybe the recording engineer doesn't have the software that can shift the frequency/ frequncies so slightly that it is hardly noticable.

The ones that buys your DVD may want to take the DVD to work. They may want to listen to your songs doing break. Since the portable DVD plays stereo only, stereo is what they will hear. When the buyer of your DVD gets home they may want to hear the same DVD songs but in 5.1 Dolby Digital to entertain company. all they have to do is pop the DVD in his/her 5.1 receiver. Later they may want to hear again in stereo. Just select the stereo mode.
Also
You can charge more for it. It has a longer longevity. 5 years from now they may still be downloading your songs only because it is in 51 Dolby Digital. As you may know your stereo mix has a vey short shelf life. I don't need to tell you that. If you have already made up your mind to have your work mastered by separaton get a bigger bang for your buck! Have it done in 5.1 too!
NECCESSARY THINGS TO REMEMBER BEFORE SENDING TRACKS.
(1) Never put kick drums, bass, rhythm bass or rhythm guitar on the same track. I need to be able to place in the best suited monitors, center,left,right,surround
When I mix I first make sure that the bass kick drum and snare are balanced. If it is on the same track then I will have to EQ it. I can not add filters to stop the cross talking. .
(2) Don't use compression or any dynamics
The track for tracks can easily become over processed, forcing me to ask for another copy.
(3) Don't add effects
I need to get the most ont of the effects by place the effects in the right order
(4) Voice
Voice should be in mono not stereo. It' diffecult to pan it away from instruments the may be on it' frequency. I can delete the right channel. Make sure it is dry.Back ground singer in mono. I need the option to place them in best suited monitors.
(5) Long sustaining instruments
Synth in stereo. mono is ok. Strings or any long sustaining instruement can be in stereo or mono. Long sustaining instruments are usually not the cause of the distortion;unless over processed. It is usually fast moving instuments coliding with voice or each other.
